A clear handoff after the install
Start with the shop that completed the work.
Use this page for general care guidance after matched installer work. The installer’s completed-job record, care instructions, and warranty communication control the details for your vehicle.
The matched installer contracts directly with the vehicle owner and owns the firm quote, project scope, material recommendation, scheduling and booking, payment collection, installation work, customer relationship, and applicable warranty communication and obligations.

Care · after matched installer work
Soak-and-soap ruined more PPFthan any rock chip ever did.
Your installer’s cure instructions come first. This guide adds general pH-neutral wash chemistry, ceramic-topper compatibility by category, and finish-specific maintenance for completed PPF and color-change work.
The completed-job contract
Three things to confirm before changing the care routine.
- Keep acidic wheel cleaner off the film perimeterunless the installer says the product is safe for the completed work.
- Keep abrasive polishing compound off PPF because it can scuff the self-healing top coat. Ask the installer about correction work.
- No solvent-bearing sealant spray over a fresh ceramic topper unless the installer has approved the timing and product.
The five reference lines
XPEL, 3M, Llumar, SunTek, and STEK appear here as educational references. Veilmotive is not the seller, installer, or warranty authority for any of these brands; use the matched installer’s records for the completed job.
Section 01 · wash chemistry
pH-neutral shampoo. Two buckets. No dish soap.
Wash chemistry is one of the easiest ways to protect the completed work. Keep the pH between 6 and 8 unless the matched installer gave you different instructions.
What to use
pH-neutral car shampoo
Washing pH 6–8. Anything marketed as “wax-stripping” or “deep clean” sits below that band.
Microfiber wash mitt + two-bucket grit guard
One bucket for soap, one for rinsing the mitt. The grit guard keeps the abrasive load off the paint.
Dedicated PPF/foam-cannon pre-wash
Snow-foam pre-wash lifts the loose grit so the contact-wash mitt touches clean film.
Straight RO/di water for a no-spot final rinse
Skip the drying towel. A sheeted rinse on a hydrophobic topper and air-dry leaves the panel spot-free.
What to avoid
Acidic wheel cleaner
pH < 5 — creeps under the film edge, etches the adhesive, and yellows the perimeter over time.
Solvent-bearing degreaser
Strips the hydrophobic layer and, on PPF, lifts the self-healing top coat. Reach for a pH-neutral APC instead.
Dish soap
pH 7–9 but loaded with surfactants designed to strip cooking grease. Strip a wax job, strip a topper.
Abrasive clay-bar mitt on a matte/satin film
Matte/satin vinyl can be spot-polished back, but a clay-bar pass flattens the texture permanently. Use a soft foam pad and warm water.
The quick rule
If the bottle doesn't print a pH on the label, it's probably loaded for the shop floor, not the film.
pH-neutral car shampoo + a wash mitt is enough for 95% of owners. The other 5% is a two-stage pre-wash on a track-day car — which still tops out at pH 8.
Section 02 · ceramic-topper compatibility
Which toppers suit each finish category.
A ceramic topper can be a useful hydrophobicity boost on some gloss films and a surface problem on matte or satin finishes. Treat the table as an educational reference, then confirm product compatibility with the installer who completed the work.
PPF — self-healing top coat (hydrophobic by line)
Ultimate Plus PPF
XPEL · gloss
SiO₂ topper after a 24-hour cure — CarPro Reload, Gyeon Cure, GTechnic EXO. No solvent-bearing sealant sprays over the top.
RecommendedView referencePro Series PPF
3M · gloss
3M recommends a thin SiO₂ topper for beading. Avoid abrasive polishing compounds — the Pro Series top coat is repairable, not replaceable.
RecommendedView referenceValor PPF
Llumar · gloss
Llumar Valor ships with a hydrophobic top coat. Re-apply CarPro Reload or GTechnic EXO every 6–8 weeks; never glaze over a self-healing film.
RecommendedView referenceUltra PPF
SunTek · gloss
SunTek Ultra is hydrophobic from the line — a SiO₂ topper extends rinse-off but is not required. Keep waxes off the top coat.
RecommendedView referenceDYNOshield-form PPF
STEK · gloss
STEK ships with its own hydrophobic topper. A second SiO₂ layer is fine; a solvent-bearing sealant will lift the self-healing surface.

Vinyl — accent + color-change (no self-heal)
Gloss Midnight Vinyl
TeckWrap · gloss
Gloss vinyl takes an SiO₂ topper after a full 48-hour post-heal cure — CarPro Reload reads clean on midnight-black.
RecommendedView referenceColor-Shift Vinyl
Aromorth · color-shift
Color-shift vinyl benefits from a thin SiO₂ topper for hydrophobicity — the pearl reads stronger wet.
RecommendedView referenceMatte Finisher Vinyl (accent)
Aromorth · matte
Matte vinyl rejects a ceramic topper — the SiO₂ beads and leaves a glossy “pinhole.” Use a satin-finish sealant spray instead (GTechnic EXO Matte, CarPro PERL).
Pinhole warningView referenceMirror Cap Stripe (accent)
Vvivid · satin
Satin reads as satin — never gloss. Skip ceramic toppers; use a satin-finish sealant. Polishing turns satin into gloss permanently.
Pinhole warningView referenceRoof Stripe (accent)
Vvivid · gloss
Gloss accent stripes tolerate SiO₂ toppers fine. Keep citrus degreasers off — they strip the bond.

Universal point
- No abrasive polishing compound on PPF. It scuffs the self-healing top coat and may create a warranty question. Ask the installer before correction work.
- Never glaze over a self-healing top coat. The product is repairable — a glaze seals the surface and blocks the heat-activated heal.
- Matte / satin vinyl rejects ceramic toppers. Pinholes can appear quickly. Use only a finish-safe product approved by the installer.
Section 03 · installer and manufacturer records
Three steps to keep care and warranty questions grounded.
Warranty duration, registration, and claim requirements depend on the manufacturer and the completed installation. The matched installer owns job-specific care instructions, installation records, and warranty communication; the manufacturer controls its product terms.
- 01
Find the batch code
Look on the roll, packaging, or installer paperwork for the batch information. The code sits next to the manufacturer line — XPEL, 3M, Llumar, SunTek, or STEK.
Format: ABC-YYYY-MM-X · three-letter prefix + year + month + line.
- 02
Land on the maker’s warranty page
Each manufacturer runs its own warranty process. Use the decoder as a reference, then confirm the right URL and required information with the matched installer.
The completed-job record, installer guidance, and applicable manufacturer terms determine what can be registered or claimed.
- 03
Confirm the record for this install
Any warranty record applies to the completed vehicle and installation context, not just to a batch code in isolation.
Keep the installer’s job record, care instructions, and any manufacturer registration details together for the full applicable term.
Where the batch code lives
The roll, packaging, or installer record.
- PPF (full roll)Sticker on the roll end cap, two inches down from the trim seal. Cross-references the maker’s verification page or the installer’s completed-job record. Keep the code with the vehicle details and installation date.
- Vinyl (boxed)Printed on the packaging or wrapping for the film. The exact format varies, so use the installer’s record if the label is unclear or missing.
- Chip samplesReference samples may show a finish, but they do not replace the completed-job record. If the batch code is unclear, ask the matched installer to confirm the film and installation details.
Warranty tool · decode a label
Paste the batch code from the back of the roll.
The 3-letter prefix identifies the manufacturer; the middle YYYY-MM identifies the production month. Use the result as an educational reference, then confirm the completed-job record and next step with the matched installer.
